Dialectical behavior therapy

Also known as: DBT

Providence Behavioral Health now offers dialectical behavioral therapy to people with difficult borderline personality disorders. DBT begins with 60-minute individual evaluation sessions, which are typically held weekly from one to four weeks. Following the initial evaluation, a patient will attend 50-minute individual therapy sessions and DBT Skills Training Group weekly. The 90-minute DBT Skills Training Group is available only at Providence Portland Medical Center. DBT patients are usually in the program from six to 12 months.

Providence Psychiatric Dialectical Behavior Therapy offers an effective evidence-based approach to helping people better manage their behavior and emotions. Blending eastern and western methods, DBT teaches important life skills: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
