STEMI risk increasing in younger women

A recent presentation at EuroPCR shed light on what appears to be a growing problem of STEMI in women, and particularly younger women. Under-treatment and delays in treatment in women with heart attacks has long been recognized, although solutions to this problem have been slow in coming.

In July PMMC made history in its hospital by completing its first successful atrial septal defect closure. Christopher Cannon, M.D., of Providence Medical Group-Cardiology, and his team repaired an ASD in a patient who was suffering from pulmonary hypertension. This accomplishment means patients may remain in the valley for this type of procedure.
