Lactation Support

Lactation consultants work with you at all stages to support your feeding goals.

Lactation consultants are available during your pregnancy and after the birth of your baby. Our lactation consultants are experienced to work with you at any stage of your baby’s development to support your breastfeeding goals. Breastfeeding support can be especially helpful for mothers of infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Sometimes after you get home with your newborn, questions or problems arise. It's good to know that Providence lactation consultants are available and ready to help. Outpatient lactation consultation is offered on a fee-for-service basis; check to see if your health plan pays for this service. However, all mothers are assisted regardless of ability to pay.

Breast milk provides all the nutrients a baby needs for the first six months and specialists recommend continuing for 12 months or as long as mother and baby mutually desire. Exclusive breastfeeding may reduce infant deaths caused by common childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and pneumonia and shortens recovery during an illness.
