Dr. Sarah Dawson, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center Chief Resident, teaches students how to perform CPR at the Physician Career Highlight.
During the 2014-2015 school year, approximately 373 students have participated in 18 Career Highlight events put on by Providence School Outreach. Over 40 Providence Caregivers have helped to facilitate these events, imparting their knowledge, expertise, and personal life experience to students. These events have provided students with an opportunity to experience various career areas including radiation oncology, nursing, physician assistant, rehabilitation services, physician, diagnostic imaging, finance, and industrial engineering.
Providence Caregiver Melanie Ilten demonstrates radiation therapy equipment to students at the Radiation Oncology Career Highlight.
“Before this experience, I was unsure of whether or not I wanted to study to become a physician assistant, but as I learned more about the occupation, it became clear to me that going into the medical field was what I wanted to do in the future. The speakers were wonderful and I had a lot of fun participating in the activities.”

“[The best part of the session was] I got to see things I’ve never been able to see before. It showed me a much more realistic picture of what I’m getting myself into.”
