U.S. news: Portland-area Providence hospitals among Oregon's best

July 17, 2014

Patients visiting Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center receive some of the best care in Oregon, according to U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News' annual rankings are out, and Providence Health & Services has two of the top three hospitals in the state. The rankings, now in their 25th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition or extra risk because of age or multiple health problems. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.

"This is terrific news in these challenging times of health care," said Doug Koekkoek, M.D., chief executive for clinical services in Oregon. "Providence is focused on providing care that is safe, high-quality and affordable."

The rankings are freely available at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/area/or and will appear in the U.S. News "Best Hospitals 2015" guidebook, available in August.
