New services for moms and babies at Providence Milwaukie Hospital
July 15, 2014
New moms and their babies can find education, support and a range of the services they need at the new Providence Mother and Baby Clinic on the Providence Milwaukie Hospital campus.
To help mothers provide the best nutrition for their newborns the clinic offers lactation consultation, and includes a retail space with products to support breast-feeding and pumping. For most new moms, a lactation consultation and follow-up is recommended three days after birth. The certified nurse practitioners at the Providence Mother and Baby Clinic collaborate with mother and baby’s doctors to evaluate baby for jaundice, feeding, and weight gain. For most insured patients, this is a covered benefit.
Breastfeeding may be natural, but it's not always easy. Providence Health & Services supports the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation that mothers should breast-feed or provide breast-milk for the first year of an infant’s life. The certified nurse practitioners and lactation consultants at the Providence Mother and Baby Clinic, Providence Milwaukie Hospital are available to meet privately with new moms to review breast-feeding techniques and address specific breast-feeding questions.
The clinic also has available breast-pump rentals and purchases, pumping accessories, storage and feeding supplies, and nursing bras and breast pads. For convenience, most breast-pumps can be billed direct to the mom’s insurance.
The Providence Mother and Baby Clinic, Providence Milwaukie Hospital, is a part of Providence Medical Group.
