Providence labs name new medical director

January 16, 2014

June Olson, M.D., is the new medical director for Providence Regional Laboratory and Pathology Department in Oregon.

In this regional role Dr. Olson will lead 25 pathologists who manage the laboratory demands of Providence’s hospitals and clinics throughout the state. Providence labs, including the central lab on the POP campus, perform more than 9 million tests each year.

Dr. Olson will continue as medical director of Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital Laboratory. She has served on the Providence Oregon Ministry Board and currently is a Joint Commission specialty laboratory surveyor.

Dr. Olson rejoined Providence in 2007. She served at Providence Portland Medical Center in lab leadership roles from 1999 to 2001. She also worked at Legacy and Kaiser Permanente in Oregon.

She received her medical degree from the University of Colorado and completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Utah. She replaces James Durham, M.D., who led the department as medical director for 10 years. In that decade the program experienced significant growth in the professional group size, specialization, the number of medical directorships, volume and outreach. Dr. Durham has returned to his dermatopathology specialty practice.
