New chief executive to lead Providence Portland
November 14, 2013
Chief executive, Delivery Systems
I’m pleased to announce that Paul Gaden has been named our new chief executive for Providence Portland Medical Center. Paul also will provide operational leadership, management and direction for our facilities on the east side of the Oregon Region, working with leaders at Providence Hood River, Willamette Falls and Milwaukie. Paul is an engaging leader who has an extensive background in health care.
Paul comes to us from Texas, where he has served since 2009 as vice president and chief operating officer of CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial and CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Shoreline. In that role he has been responsible for two acute care hospitals totaling 898 beds. He also led pharmacy operations for the six-hospital region.
Paul served in a variety of leadership roles for other health care organizations since 2000. Before that, he held finance and contract management roles in the defense industry.
Paul is excited to join Providence and continue serving a Catholic health care system. He says our Mission and core values align with his service at CHRISTUS Spohn, a ministry started by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1905 to care for the poor and underserved. Paul was drawn to Providence because of our national reputation for delivering exceptional, compassionate health care to those in need.
Paul received his undergraduate degree in finance from Pennsylvania State University and his MBA from The College of William & Mary.
We’ll be welcoming Paul and his family to Providence officially on Jan. 6. He’ll be making some trips out before then, and we’ll make sure there are plenty of opportunities to meet him. I also would like to take this opportunity to thank Larry Bowe, who will continue serving as interim chief executive at Providence Portland until Paul begins early next year.
