Providence brings Gamma Knife to Portland, benefits nearly 1,900 patients to date

Back in the heyday of Star Trek, it was utter science fiction when Dr. McCoy treated injured members of the Enterprise crew with tools he just waved over their bodies. Who ever thought we’d have technology to treat something like a brain tumor without ever cutting into the body? Science fiction is fact since the invention of the Gamma Knife. Providence was the first to bring this state-of-the-art technology to Portland – benefiting nearly 1,900 patients to date. Dr. Stephen Bader, radiation oncologist with the Gamma Knife Center of Oregon, part of Providence Cancer Center and Providence Brain and Spine Institute, spoke about the gamma knife with KXL radio.
