Woody English, M.D., to retire

May 30, 2013

Longtime Providence physician and medical leader Woody English, M.D., will retire July 27. A celebratory farewell takes place from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, July 12, in the Stanley Family Rooms at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center Office Building.

Dr. English first moved to Oregon in 1977 as a Centers for Disease Control epidemiologist assigned to this state. By 1990 he was part of the Providence family.

Over the years he contributed to the evolution of care at Providence, serving patients and colleagues as he helped shape hospitalists and infectious disease programs.

More recently he helped develop and grow Providence's end-of-life care programs, serving as medical director of palliative care and Connections. Rob Luck, regional director of the program, will continue to be the administrative lead for palliative care and Connections. A search is underway to fill Dr. English’s position.
