Physician leaders named in Newberg, Portland and Medford

George Weghorst, M.D., is retiring as chief medical officer for Providence Newberg Medical Center after successfully guilding the facility over the past 10 years. He is succeeded by Amy Schmitt, M.D., a longstanding member of Newberg’s Medical Executive Committee, who currently serves as medicine department chair and medical director for the hospitalist program.

Elsewhere, Jason Kuhl, M.D., was named quality medical director for Providence Medford Medical Center. Dr. Kuhl is a past-president of the professional staff at Medford. He is currently the clinic medical director for the PMG-Medford Family Practice Clinic and an Epic clinical champion for the Medford campus.

Scott Marsal, M.D., has assumed the role of new Oregon Region medical director for patient safety. He will continue to provide oversight and direction for the Global Trigger Tool, and will still chair the regional sentinel event subcommittee of the Oregon Quality Council. – Doug Koekkoek, M.D., chief medical officer, Oregon Region
