Skateboarder lives to tell about necessity of helmets

Last year, 19-year-old Simon Brooks crashed his skateboard. He was not wearing a helmet. Rushed to the emergency department at Providence Medford Medical Center with a traumatic head injury, his family feared the worst. A year later, Simon is back in school, riding a bicycle (with helmet), running half marathons and delivering flowers to the ICU team that helped bring him back from the brink. The Mail Tribune ran a cover story about Simon’s miraculous recovery and his determination to spread the word about helmet safety.
