The weather was picture perfect for the Team Gaffney Swim & Cruise for the Kids on Saturday, Aug. 27. Karen Gaffney and her 18 fellow swimmers took 90 minutes to cover six miles in the Columbia River, from the I-205 Glenn Jackson Bridge westward to the I-5 bridge, while cruise passengers aboard the Portland Spirit cheered them all the way. The busy swimmers also recruited their circle of friends to support the cause.

“I got more out of swimming than I gave,” says Team Gaffney swimmer Tim Haslach, an attorney. We beg to differ – to date, the Swim & Cruise has raised nearly $79,000 for the aquatic therapy program for the Center for Medically Fragile Children at Providence Child Center.

Many thanks to the swimmers, their support team, sponsors, donors, cruise passengers and the Karen Gaffney Foundation. You can still join our team of supporters by making a donation to the aquatic therapy fund.
