Use of Augmentative Communication in the Home: Tips to being a successful communicator

Bethany Bertoti, MS, CCC-SLP, is a pediatric speech-language pathologist at Providence Children's Development Institute. Bethany is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has an extensive background in augmentative and alternative communication.

This two-hour course is geared for parents, families, caregivers, in-home SLPs, and OTs to learn some basic techniques in integrating your child’s communication system (from low tech to high tech SGDs) into your daily life WITHOUT creating added stress.

Learn to

  • Recognize communication vs “testing”
  • Use low tech- high tech SGDs in a variety of settings in the home and community
  • Identify at least three daily activities that you ALREADY do where a communication system can be integrated.

This will NOT be a training on specific devices or systems, rather ways to integrate any system a child may have into the home and community.
