New moms and their babies can find education, support and a range of the services they need at the Providence Mother and Baby Clinic on the Providence Milwaukie Hospital campus.
The clinic serves as a safety-net for moms and babies. Initial visits offer assessments of moms and their baby following delivery. Subsequent visits focus on lactation. With the increased acuity of patients at Providence Portland Medical Center, there is a need for close follow-up of moms and infants at risk for problems like, maternal hypertension and newborn problems related to jaundice, weight loss and prematurity. Having a clinic in the Milwaukie area allows families who live close by a convenient place to get the help they need to assure breastfeeding success.
To help mothers provide the best nutrition for their newborns the clinic offers lactation consultation. For most new moms, a lactation consultation and follow-up is recommended three days after birth. Connected care is a vital part of the model of care and a priority for the clinic is to work closely with providers. Providers and lactation consultants work together in managing the breastfeeding needs of these new families. Lactation consultants include RNs who hold international certification in lactation and nurses holding advance practice certification as nurse midwives and nurse practitioners. See our staff ›
The clinic also has available breast-pump rentals and purchases, pumping accessories, storage and feeding supplies, and nursing bras and breast pads. For convenience, most breast-pumps can be billed direct to the mom’s insurance.
