New Group Fitness Class Schedule for 2014

Tai Chi for Everyone
This beginning Tai Chi class is now being offered to members and non-members who are either interested in trying Tai Chi or who have taken it in the past. This class will be taught in a relaxing, meditative environment. All postures are done slowly. The Tai Chi forms learned will improve balance and flexibility and promote relaxation and good health.

Sept. 11 - Oct. 30
Thursdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
$40 members, $60 non-members

Continuing Tai Chi
This class will be for individuals who have taken Tai Chi at Mercantile or at another location (or adventurous beginners) and want to continue to learn and improve their form. The class will focus on the following:

  • Review first section of the Yang Style Long Form to answer any questions and improve form
  • Complete learning of the second section of the form

  • Begin learning the third section of the form

In addition to learning the forms, there will be more discussion of Tai Chi philosophy and discussion of fundamental principles of forms.

Yoga for Arthritis
Yoga for Arthritis uses the tools of yoga, to improve the health and well-being of people living with arthritis. This form of yoga can help you rediscover freedom of movement and the inner power to live life on your terms.
*Classes will resume fall of 2014

Parkinson's Exercise Program
This class will address most of the symptoms of Parkinson’s from posture and movement to facial expression and voice in a fun, non-threatening environment. Using a variety of activities such as Tai Chi, Pilates, strength training and functional movements, we will work to improve cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility and balance.
Mondays, 1:15-2:15 p.m.
Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-noon and 12:15-1:15 p.m.
Thursdays, 11 a.m.-noon and 12:15-1:15 p.m.
Fridays, 1:15-2:15 p.m.
