Our certified hand therapists and occupational therapists have advanced clinical skills. They can provide a plan to help you prevent injury, alleviate pain or recover from surgery.

Why use a hand therapy specialist?

Certified hand therapists have in-depth training and education on the bones, muscles, ligaments and nerves in the hand, wrist and arm. By seeing a Providence hand therapist, you can get an accurate assessment, immediate care and effective treatment. This adds up to faster recovery time, less time away from work, lower medical costs and a quicker return to the activities you enjoy.

The treatment plan

After a referral from your surgeon or doctor, our highly skilled team will do a complete assessment of your condition and how it affects your ability to engage in everyday activities. We will develop a personalized treatment plan based on our evaluation and your goals. Treatment often starts within days of the injury or surgery. It continues until you can return to a productive lifestyle.

Therapy for postoperative and traumatic injuries typically centers on healing the wound, reducing swelling and gradually introducing gentle movement. If this is your situation, one of our therapists may create a splint to protect the injured area. Therapy will continue until you reach the highest level of functionality possible.

Treatment for chronic conditions focuses on managing symptoms, increasing function, preventing further damage and modifying daily activities to promote healing. We can custom-fit equipment and splints to help ease your limitations.

Treatments may include:
• Adaptive/assistive devices and training
• Desensitizatio Edema control
• Functional activity/training
• Manual therapy
• Modalities
• Orthotic (splint) design and fabrication
• Pain management
• Patient education
• Prosthetic training
• Range of motion and strengthening
• Scar remodeling
• Sensory re-education
• Wound healing

Our team of experts is available for professional presentations and consultations to help industries establish injury prevention programs for workers with cumulative trauma disorders. We can recommend ways to modify workstations and create alternative work methods to help ensure employees have healthy work environments.

After illness, injury or disability, people in our community turn to Providence Hand Clinic to regain function and independence and to manage their conditions long after therapy is complete.
