Cancer doesn’t discriminate, but access to great cancer care hasn’t always been the same for everyone. At Providence, we are deeply committed to making sure every patient we treat has access to the best cancer care. We value, respect and support the racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual and spiritual identities of each member of our diverse community, and we never turn a patient away. Instead, we work to make sure every patient is treated equally and with dignity – whoever you are, and wherever you are in your journey.

When you become a patient at Providence, you become part of a collaborative cancer-care network. Our care often exceeds national measures for patient outcomes. We have award-winning doctors, scientists, researchers and caregivers across 51 hospitals in seven states. The skills of your local team and the power of this network add up to the best, most compassionate care. And if you need to meet with a specialist outside your area, we have telehealth technology to help. Our network and superior care are among the reasons 6,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients choose Providence Cancer Institute of Oregon each year.

Through our pioneering research, we have helped make cancer immunotherapy a new standard of care. Our globally renowned team of physician researchers and scientists at Earle A. Chiles Research Institute offers hope to patients and families.

We offer a range of services to keep you in control of your health:

Does breast or ovarian cancer run in your family? We can help you find answers and protect yourself. When you know you’re at risk for something, you can make choices that keep you healthy.

Our team offers genetic testing and counseling that looks for markers linked to an increased risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. These markers are called BRCA1 and BRCA2. If we find these markers on your test, we can discuss options with you to help you manage and lower your cancer risk.

One of our patients, Nicki, said this about her cancer risk assessment:

“Having the test is empowering but overwhelming. My first impulse was to do something now. Instead, I stepped back and got counseling,” says Nicki. “Being a BRCA2 carrier does not mean bad things will happen immediately. There is time to process information and make the best possible decisions for yourself and your family.”

Not sure if you need to be tested? Take the hereditary cancer quiz.

Financial assistance

For the countless uninsured women in southern Oregon, screening mammograms are a luxury and often overshadowed by other necessities. Since 2003, Providence has provided access to charitable mammography funds so that the cost of a screening doesn’t get in the way of important preventative care. These funds include:

Sister Therese Kohles Fund – supported by the generosity of individuals and businesses in Southern Oregon, such as The Human Bean and the annual Tee it Up to Battle Breast Cancer golf tournament.

Oregon Breast and Cervical Cancer Program – supported by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Oregon and SW Washington Affiliate and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For more information, call the toll-free hotline at 877-255-7070.
