Postpartum thyroiditis

Postpartum thyroiditis is an uncommon condition that occurs in women after the delivery of a baby; usually within two to six months after childbirth.

Symptoms include rapid heartbeat, sudden and unexplained weight loss, nervousness, fatigue, and increased sensitivity to heat.

In many cases, thyroid function returns to normal. However, some women develop long-term hypothyroidism and need lifelong thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
